The Quest 2 has very good tracking without lighthouses and is the only standalone headset worth discussing, but makes a lot of concessions to its price point. You can buy a wireless adapter for as much as Quest 2 costs, but you still need to use lighthouses. The Vive is a high end headset that suffers from an abysmal controller and lackluster hardware updates. FWIW, gun to my head, I'd say that the 5K Super is probably the best headset on the market by the numbers, but I've never actually used one. Their headsets all require wires and lighthouses.
BEST HEADSET FOR PC GAMING SOFTWARE
The thing is, there are a lot of reports that Pimax headsets require a lot of tinkering and trial and error to actually make work their software doesn't live up to their hardware. The 5K Super has a resolution that's smaller than the 8KX but better than anything else on the market with a stupefying 200 degree FOV and 180hz refresh rate. The 8KX has massive resolution (a 4K screen on each eye) but a relatively low refresh rate. If you want a super high end experience, Pimax basically takes the other pieces of the Index and pairs it with a better HMD. There's no clear cut winner at the moment. Schedule an AMA!
